As a late bloomer who was blessed to be surrounded by some of the best players in Louisiana, I always looked up to them but also wanted to be able to contribute to the team in my own way just as I saw them doing. Coach Ty and Coach DP saw the potential in me that I never knew I had and were the first people to truly believe in me and without their push and belief in me I would never have experienced the beautiful places, people and things that basketball can give you.

Going to D1 and working out in groups on a weekly basis not only gave me insight on how it is to train like a collegiate player at a young age but gave me a second family that I looked forward to seeing Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. A moment I’ll never forget is during a game I finally made a move that I had been working on and I saw Coach DP and Ty leave right afterwards. When I talked to Coach Ty after the game he said “That’s all I needed to see”

People will forget what you do and what you say but will never forget how you make them feel and for the first time I felt like someone believed in me the same way I wanted to believe in myself.

As my collegiate career came to an end a few months earlier than I expected due to an injury I am now coaching and use the way that I was coached at Heartwork as motivation to make the players around me feel the same way I felt as a 15 year old girl who knew nothing about ball but fell in love with it.

Basketball has blessed me with 2 individuals who I call family and allowed me to get to the next level where I was able to meet so many more amazing people.

Everyone who is successful has had help from someone else.

It’s so much bigger than basketball!
